Chris Sale was a
2001 participant at Cooperstown Dreams
Park with the Auburndale Storm (FL) during
week 6. In 2010, he was chosen by the
Chicago White Sox as the 13th first-round
pick of Major League Baseball's amateur
draft.
Chris graduated from Lakeland High School
(Lakeland, FL) in 2007. He was also
selected as a 21st round draft selection
by the Colorado Rockies. Instead of making
the jump to the professionals, Chris
enrolled and attended Florida Golf Coast
University (Fort Myers, FL).
A left-handed pitcher, Chris recorded 21
appearances on the mound, all but one in
relief He finished the year with a 2-0
record with two saves, throwing 36.1
innings with 46 strikeouts and only nine
walks. Chris had a 3.47 ERA and held
opponents to a .250 batting average. He
was chosen to the Freshman All A-Sun
team.
As a sophomore, Chris appeared in 14
games, making 12 starts. He went 7-4 with
104 strikeouts, throwing 89.1 innings with
a 2.72 ERA. Chris ERA was first on the
team as well as his opposing batting
average (.246), innings pitched (89.1),
and strike outs (104). He was second in
the A-Sun in ERA and strike outs, tied for
second in the A-Sun in wins, and third in
innings pitched. Chris was named A-Sun
player of the week on Mar. 30 and earned
All-Atlantic First Team honors.
During his junior year, Chris earned BFC
Outstanding Pitcher Award for the 2009
Cape Cod Baseball League Season after
leading the league in strikeouts and
innings pitched. He was named top prospect
in Cape Cod League by Baseball America and
earned Louisville Slugger Preseason Second
Team All-American honors selected by
Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
After his junior collegiate season, Chris
made the decision to turn professional,
signing with the Chicago White Sox. He was
first assigned with single A Winston-Salem
Dash (Winston-Salem, NC), pitching in 4
games (0-0 record, 2.25 ERA in 4 innings).
Chris was promoted to the AAA Charlotte
Knights (Fort Mill, SC), throwing in 7
games (0-0 record, 2.84 ERA). On August 4,
2010, Chris was called up to the majors,
making his debut on August 6, 2010 against
the Baltimore Orioles. The first 2010
major league draft pick to be promoted to
the majors, Chris continues to pitch for
the Chicago White Sox as a closer.
