When 11 boys from Gilroy's 12U Triple Crown Baseball team journeyed to Cooperstown, New York for a week-long tournament from July 9-15, they encountered a transformative experience. These players, all of whom grew up playing in the Gilroy Little League, cherished their time in Cooperstown, described by David Rodriguez as “The best time of my life.” Cooperstown, renowned for its Baseball Hall of Fame and the Cooperstown Dreams Baseball Tournament, promised immaculate fields set against the Catskill and Adirondack mountains and dormitory living for players.
Upon arrival, Assistant Coach David Lira recorded their eager anticipations. Lorenzo Alvarez excitedly mentioned playing with diverse players, while Alex Vankerkwyk looked forward to the tradition of pin trading. The team's achievements included eight home runs by four players and second place in the Around the Horn competition among 94 teams. An impromptu wiffle ball game in a downpour at the Fly Creek Cider Mill became an iconic memory. Manager Jordan Holler, a former Cooperstown player, emphasized the incredible talent he observed. Jacob Carreiro's highlights included his home runs and bonding with his teammates. The team's adventures can be viewed on Instagram @triple_crown_travelball, showcasing their unforgettable experiences.
