Christian Lopes
competed at Cooperstown Dreams Park in
2005 with the Southern California Redwings
(CA) during the National Tournament of
Champions. Lopes and his team advanced to
the weekly championship game, falling to
the Boys of Baseball National Travel Team
(AL), 5-4. Christian was a finalist in the
Road Runner, placing 4th.
A year after playing at Cooperstown Dreams
Park (2006), Christian was named the U-13
Player of the Year by National Youth
Baseball. He went on to have successful
scholastic career at Valencia High School
(Santa Clarita, CA). A starter on for the
varsity baseball team his freshman year
(2008), Christian hit .408 with 10 home
runs, earning MVP. As a sophomore (2009),
he was named All-Santa Clarita Valley
Player of the Year and Foothill League MVP
with a .453 batting average, including 15
home runs and 33 RBI.
Prior to his junior high school season,
Christian's family moved and he attended
and played for Edison High School
(Huntington Beach, CA). Christian, an
infielder, played two seasons at Edison
(2010 and 2011). He helped his team clinch
Sunset League titles both years and was
named co-MVP his senior year. In addition
to varsity baseball, Christian competed in
2006 with 16U USA baseball squad and in
2008 with the 18U USA team. He committed
to playing at University of Southern
California (Los Angeles, CA); however,
Christian was selected 229th overall in
2011 Major League Baseball Amateur draft
by the Toronto Blue Jays.
