Delino DeShields was
a member of the 2005 N.A.T.C. champions at
Cooperstown Dreams Park, the Boys of
Baseball National Travel Team (an
organization based out of Alabama). During
the 2010 Major League Baseball Amateur
draft, Delino became a first-round pick,
being chosen eighth by the Houston
Astros.
Just prior to his first-round pick, Delino
graduated from Woodward Academy (College
Park, GA). Delino played centerfield for
Woodward Academy, helping the War Eagles
capture the 2010 Region 4-AAA
Championship. He recorded 29 stolen bases
and .415 BA with nine home runs during his
senior year. Delino was one of eight
players from his team to be named to the
Region 4-AAA All Region Team 1st Team
roster.
Delino did sign a letter of intent to play
baseball at Louisiana State University
(Baton Rouge, LA). However, he decided not
to pursue a college career and signed with
the Houston Astros. Delino began his
professional career in 2010 with the
Rookie League's Gulf Coast Astros
(Florida). After two games, he went to
another Rookie League team, Greenville
Astros (Greenville, TN). In 2011, he was
promoted to the Class A Lexington Legends
(Lexington, KY) where he continues to be
listed on the roster as the team's second
baseman.
