Alex Leighton competed at Cooperstown Dreams Park during Week 2 in 2006 with the West Boynton Gators (FL). Alex hit a solo home run during the championship game, helping his team defeat the Lakeland Rawlings Renegades (FL), 12-0, to clinch the weekly title.

Alex graduated from American Heritage High School (Delray Beach, FL) where he was a four-year baseball letterman. A right-handed pitcher and captain of his team, Alex recorded a 9-3 record on the mound while batting a team-high .441 with 36 hits, seven doubles, two home runs and 23 RBI his senior year (2011). He received First-Team All-Area and a First-Team All-Palm Beach County honors as well as the school's Stallion Award.

Following his high school graduation, Alex went on to study at Flagler University (St. Augustine, FL) and compete with their baseball program.
