Bryan Harper was a
member of the Southern Nevada Bulldogs
(NV) who competed at Cooperstown Dreams
Park in 2002 during Week 9.
Bryan, who is a left-handed pitcher,
attended Las Vegas High School (Las Vegas,
NV) and graduated in 2008 with a 4.1 grade
point average. He was a four-year member
of the varsity baseball team and ran cross
country for two seasons. Bryan received
the following baseball accolades: junior
year - First Team All-Region, First Team
All-State, and Northeast Division Player
of the Year Honors; and senior year -
First Team All-Region and First Team
All-State honors.
Immediately following graduation, Bryan
was drafted in the 31st round of Major
League Baseball's Amateur Draft by the
Washington Nationals. However, he decided
to pursue a collegiate career, attending
and playing at Cal State Northridge
(Northridge, CA) his freshman year (2009).
Prior to his sophomore year, Bryan
transferred to College of Southern Nevada
(Clark County, NV) and competed for one
season (2010). During Bryan's time with
Southern Nevada he threw for a 10-1 record
with 88 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched
and a 2.18 ERA. He helped lead the team to
the 2010 NJCAA World Series and was rated
16th best junior college prospect in the
nation by Baseball America.
Bryan was drafted a second time in 2010 by
the Chicago Cubs in the 27th round. Bryan
once again opted to play at the collegiate
level, transferring to the University of
South Carolina (Columbia, SC) for his
junior year (2010-2011). In 2011, the
Washington Nationals chose Bryan during
the first-year player draft in the
30th-round.
